We developed a new type of tank for recovered oil, which includes two parallel tank parts attached to each other. The structure of the tank also includes connectors that allow the tanks to be attached also in series. The dimensions of the tanks can be designed as required.
The steel frame structure of the oil spill response tank is made of high-strength steel, the yield strength of which is many times higher than that of the base steels. The tanks are made of a layered polyethylene pipe with welded polyethylene ends. Tanks are also equipped with manholes with filling and discharging wells. There is thermal insulation between the inner and outer shell of the tank.
Transport and towing of oil recovery tanks
The dimensioning of an individual tank enables road transport to the accident site. If necessary, the entire Finnish tank fleet can be delivered to the site. Boat class oil spill response tanks will be equipped with hooklift platforms for truck transport, if necessary, to facilitate and speed up the commissioning of the tanks in oil spill accidents in land or on water. Ship-class oil recovery tanks can be transported empty by trucks, which also enables fast transfers cross-the border, when needed.
The tanks are stable in the towing mode, both empty and full. Thanks to the structure, the towing forces are transferred to the steel frame of the construction, and the plastic tanks are not subjected to pulling forces. The towing speed is 10 knots for empty tanks and 6 knots for fully laden tanks. The structure of having parallel tanks maintain good stability during towage, and when anchoring in all oil recovery conditions. The oil recovery tanks can also be towed one after the other. A hot-dip galvanized steel bow is formed at the front end of the single tank to meet waves smoothly.
Easy acces, reuse and store
Oil or other harmful substance will be pumped into the oil recovery tank directly from the skimmer or oil collection unit. Larger oil recovery vessels may also pump recovered oil and slurry directly into these tanks from their recovery tanks.
The tanks have equipped by large hatches, so-called manholes, which enables easy access and service of the tank interiors. Due to the easy washing of the tanks, the tanks can be reused almost unlimited times.
Oil recovery tanks can be stored outdoors. The service life is more than 50 years without extra maintenance costs.
Multipurpose tanks
As a result of good design, the tanks are also versatile. Our oil recovery tanks can be used, for example, to transport wastewater from the archipelago, as a temporary pontoon bridge, as a pier or as a temporary storage tank for bilge water in ports.
Patented KK -oil recovery tanks and other tools for the responders we have manufactured also the competent oil combating authority in Finland, the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) . SYKE has approved and recommends the use of oil recovery tanks as a part of the oil recovery operations.
